The goal of the Macedonia Activity Community Center (MACC) is to support individuals and families by improving their health through exposure to physical wellness and healthy foods/lifestyle. This wellness program would enhance the quality of life for the community while providing individuals and families with education to make better health and lifestyle choices.
Research studies have reported that Lenoir County has a poverty rate of 23.2% which is higher than the national average of 14.7%. The county population is 55,976, with a median household income of $37,515.00. However, there are limited recreational opportunities for the teenage population aged 18 and under, which represents 22% of the people residing in Lenoir County.
Located in Kinston, the heart of Eastern North Carolina, our organization embraces the challenges found in rural areas. Our facility is located in a serene section of the county, where it can provide optimal experiences and interactions. Recreational therapy-assisted programs are extremely effective. The benefits of the interactions associated with recreational activities have been found to decrease stress levels, reduce feelings of anger and anxiety, enhance self-esteem, improve social skills, increase beta endorphin levels, decrease heart rate and blood pressure, and several other benefits.

Our plan for the MACC envisions increased healthy lifestyles coupled with decreased sickness and death. It aims to solve the impact of a health problem as measured in a situation where a healthy life is shortened by illness, injury, disability, and early death.
The guiding principle is a belief in our community based on faith and hard work. The Macedonia Community is a collection of proud and caring people. This community not only gathers to worship, discuss community affairs, and generally socialize but also believes a striving community is healthy. We also believe that when someone feels good about themselves and takes care of their health, it enhances their self-esteem. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle by doing what is best for your body.
